Fairy

Enchanted Woods - Kieran Gonsalves (c) 2025

Into the enchanted woods, deep 'n dark
I ventured one morning, up with the lark
When all of a sudden, what should I hear?
Sweet, soft sounds meandering in my ear
Like Circe's sirens, it lured me in deeper 'n deeper
Voila! A fairy in glistening gossamer on a creeper?
Swish! A flutter of wings ... then nary a sound
I found myself all alone, with no one around
Just her lilting flute etched in my memory
Either that or the woods playing tricks on me

Footnote: This artwork and poem are my composition

Thank you, Ajay. The blooms are very reminiscent of Laburnum (Laburnum anagyroides) - the common gold chain tree with long fragrant yellow blooms - just flowers no leaves - Kieran

Thanks Wendy. I usually start the artwork with an idea - in this case a fairy playing a flute. I love Laburnum in bloom, so that became the setting.
The poem was a complete afterthought once the artwork was done
I did add a gossamer touch to her dress once the poem was completed
All very organic and spontaneous
Glad you liked it - Kieran

Do you remember the Laburnum trees with yellow bloom usually in the Monsoon? That’s what I was thinking of - Kieran

Kieran, that Laburnum is my favorite. Along with Jacaranda. (Reply to above comment on WhatsApp)

Thanks @⁨~Dhruv Sharma⁩ - this is my composition. Started off with memories of Laburnum in full bloom (we had a tree in our front yard). The fairy playing a flute πŸͺˆ seemed a nice touch
Once the artwork was done, the poem sort of just flowed naturally
I added a gossamer touch to the fairy’s dress to match the poem
That’s how it went down. It’s always spontaneous and organic - Kieran

Great poetry skills. Loved the detail you put in the wings and leaves .One could feel her presence . (A dear friend on WhatsApp)

Thank you, Omega. The yellow blooms of Laburnums that are so profuse in monsoon inspired this artwork - Kieran

Totally whimsical. The artwork informed the poem which made me update the artwork (I added the gossamer touch to her dress). Interesting how it all came together
Glad you liked it - Kieran

Both painting and poem meld into an exquisite combination. One of your best and most personal works...πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌ (A very dear friend on WhatsApp)

Yes, I was surprised with how many people liked this. Truth be told, I started off picturing a fairy playing a flute in a floral setting. Yellow Laburnums which used to bloom during monsoons of our home in Poona were a natural choice. The sketch of the fairy came quickly but I wasn’t planning a poem. I let the painting dry and as I went about my chores a few rhymes popped into my head. I studied the painting and let the poem take shape. After coming up with the ‘glistening gossamer’ phrase, I updated the painting to add what I perceived to be wispy gossamer threads. It was quite a spontaneous and organic process. And now you know why they seem so intertwined - Kieran
