Peaches

Today's artwork is dedicated to Eric Clapton, an English guitarist, singer, and songwriter, widely considered one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time.

There is a connection - "Peaches and Diesel" is an instrumental piece featured on his 1977 album Slowhand, and is a serene and melodic track, showcasing Clapton's expressive guitar work.

The song's title was inspired by nicknames of two members from the British band No Dice, featuring Roger "Peaches" Ferris (vocalist) and Dzal "Diesel" Martin (guitarist) — whom Clapton met during recording sessions at Olympic Studios. Clapton was intrigued by their nicknames and used them as the title for an instrumental piece.

Eric Clapton’s Slowhand, released on November 25, 1977, is one of his most iconic and commercially successful albums. The title is a nod to Clapton’s nickname, “Slowhand,” which was given to him by Giorgio Gomelsky during his time with The Yardbirds, referring to the slow handclap audiences gave while waiting for Clapton to replace broken guitar strings on stage.

This album includes some of his most renowned songs, such as "Wonderful Tonight," "Lay Down Sally," and "Cocaine."

Here's a brief description of the tracks on Slowhand
  • Cocaine” – Written by J.J. Cale, this blues-rock track became one of Clapton’s most enduring songs. Despite its upbeat rhythm, Clapton has often emphasized that the song is anti-drug.
  • Wonderful Tonight” – A tender ballad written for Pattie Boyd, Clapton's then-wife. It's one of his most beloved love songs.
  • Lay Down Sally” – A laid-back country rock tune with a Southern groove. A U.S. Top 10 hit.
  • Next Time You See Her” – Features both biting lyrics and a smooth melody.
  • The Core” – A jam-heavy track featuring backing vocals by Marcy Levy (a.k.a. Marcella Detroit of Shakespeare's Sister).
  • Peaches and Diesel” – A closing instrumental track, melodic and soft, showcasing Clapton's subtle guitar style.

Thanks @⁨~Arun Trivedi⁩ - fascinating how it all started for Clapton. He was largely self-taught and listened obsessively to blues records by artists like B.B. King, Muddy Waters, and Robert Johnson, trying to replicate what he heard. He reportedly spent hours practicing daily - quite remarkable for an English boy to be so passionate about the blues- Kieran

I have rarely tasted peaches except from tins...that, too, rarely because of their being so expensive...one thing I used to wish for is the gorgeous seasonal fruit of British...damsons, and peaches, pears, and cherries, and every kind of berry...I don't mind any longer...I feel grateful for whatever fruit I did get to eat...(A friend on WhatsApp)

Eating local fruits in season is the way to go. Unfortunately globalization tempts us with year round availability grown in hot houses all over the world. I hate to think if the wasteful carbon footprint- Kieran
