Siesta Time
Siesta Time
Loose watercolor and original poem by Kieran Gonsalves (c) 2025, inspired by the practice of afternoon siestas in Goa, it's not laziness but good science.
It's siesta time along Mandovi's banks, even nature understands.
The wind has died down, not a single reed stirs in these wetlands.
After a sumptuous lunch of fish and rice, the old man snores in his bed.
His lady sensing the quietude, enjoys sewing with her needle and thread
These power naps on languid days boost the mood and help reduce stress
Cortisol levels plunge, the pulse slows down, and the blues soon evanescence
Our ancestors in Goa did just this, sadly now 'susegado' has become a cliche
Maybe they took a cue from Mother Nature and rested 'fore the evening soiree
