 The Magic of Fresh Lime Soda



Artwork and original ode to Limbu Soda by Kieran Gonsalves (c) 2026, recalling the many hot summer afternoons rescued by this simple magical drink.


Remember the instant lift from a refreshing lime soda on a hot day?
It's the perfect summer picker-upper - there's not much more to say

Except the science quietly at work. The lime is a carboxylic acid bomb
Triggering a release of saliva, which to a dry mouth is like a balm

The bubbles of the soda means more surface area so more cooling 
But here's the kicker this chemical reaction gets the brain a-fooling

The trigeminal stimulus registers in the brain as something refreshing
The salt and sugar are vital electrolytes. Fresh lime soda's a blessing

Oh, yes..one particular place that stayed in my memory is under the neem trees outside Hirabaug on Tilak road...that chap used to sell the most awesome fresh Lime soda from his handcart..absolutely refreshing, especially after a game of badminton at the Hirabaug badminton courts. I speak of a time almost 50 years ago...1977. (WhatsApp comment from a very dear friend in Pune)

  Pope Leo XIV On Thursday, May 8, 2025, the Conclave of 133 Roman Catholic Cardinals elected a new Pope for 1.4 billion faithful, the  267th in the line of Pontiffs that dates back to St Peter, who was handpicked by Jesus Christ himself. [ Matthew 16:18 ] Before he was elected Pope Leo XIV, Chicago-born Cardinal Robert Frost Prevost spent  much of his life outside the United States.
