Fractured Relations
Fractured Relations
Original artwork and poem by Kieran Gonsalves (c) 2025
Life has its ways of pulling lovers apart
But it can ne’er quench the desires of the heart
A loved one sacrificing it all for the front line
Bereft lover gazes out the window for a sign
Alzheimer's steals the memory of a beloved spouse
Even together, it’s like no one’s in the house
A misunderstanding can lead to a thaw in relations
Each waiting foolishly for the other to rise to the occasion
Grim reaper snatches your soulmate without warning
Left too much unsaid now it’s too late; truly heartburning
Far too busy reaching personal ambitions and goals
No time for simple companionship and tender emotions
Live in the moment, celebrate with friends and family
Carpe diem, and you’ll live ever happily

I decided to paint with bold colors to obscure the couple - you kinda see them but not entirely
I christened the painting fractured memories
The poem, if it plays out, always comes at the end. In this case it did

Aye, the Grim Reaper strikes when least expected - Kieran
I’ve always had open communications even with my parents, grandparents, uncles/aunts, cousins and friends. As a result I leave nothing in the proverbial tank. Unfortunately many of my nearest and dearest, have waited too long. Some lost their soul mates unexpectedly. A dear neighbor lost her 40 year old son a few months ago. A few dear friends died a slow painful death but in all cases I made my peace with them. Having said that a childhood friend who drifted away from us all, focusing on making $$ died far too quickly two years ago. That was a gut punch and we rallied to meet in person ASAP, which we did last week in Vegas after 35 years. Feeling 10 years younger - Kieran
