Seven Blessed Sacraments - #3 Reconciliation

This original series of artwork, titled "Seven Blessed Sacraments" in cloisonné-style painting,  is one of my most comprehensive works to date. It was inspired by the stained glass windows at St Simon's Catholic Church in Los Altos, California, that depict the important aspects of each of the seven sacraments in the style of stained glass.

The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation was instituted by Christ for the forgiveness of post-baptismal sin, when he bequeathed the authority to forgive sins to his Apostles  [John 20:21-23].

The sacrament involves telling sins to a priest, in absolute secrecy, showing remorse for having sinned and having the intention not to sin again. The priest, in the name of Christ, gives absolution by prescribing prayers instead of penance.

This sacrament should be received often and devoutly since it reconciles the individual with God and the Church, restores sanctifying grace lost by mortal sin, and brings peace, serenity, and spiritual consolation.

Much appreciated, dearest Naomi
It was sparked by a hallway conversation with a fellow parishioner who asked me about the 7 panels in Church. Truth be told I hadn’t put together the fact it was depicting the seven sacraments
Once it became clear it was a lot of fun deciphering each one
That sparked an idea that maybe I could do my own interpretation
It took me three days and I say this with all humility, the way it came together as a cohesive work of art true to the Catechism of the Catholic Church would not be possible without the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
I plan to donate this set to my Church - Kieran

What a wonderful gesture! And you are absolutely right about inspiration coming from the Holy Spirit...I have come to realise that everything good and beautiful in this world stem from the Holy Spirit...after all, don't we sing, "Author of Beauty God on high"?
