Sun Dappled Window

Tales of a Sun Dappled Window

Loose line and wash watercolor and pensive poem by Kieran Gonsalves (c) 2026, inspired by a photo sent by a dear friend (No, I'm not good enough to take requests so don't even think about it 😅)

A well meaning friend sent me a picture of a charming cottage window.
Draped in all shades of blue from sky to cerulean to cobalt and indigo!

The window muntins and sash were bleached by the Mediterranean sunshine.
The window panes weren't broken and the neat lace curtains were by design.

The genteel owners clearly love fragrant sprigs of blue geraniums in pots.
The bright red porcelain vase quietly suggests holiday to some exotic spots.

If only the walls could speak what stories would they tell to you and me?
Pour yourself a cuppa coffee and let the visual carry you away to gay Capri

Beautiful.... It reminds me of these windows of the olden days (something which I can barely recollect, were in India, if I'm not mistaken), esp in the British styled bungalows. Again if I'm not mistaken, a few of them, in and around Pune Camp.
These were mostly in Europe I suppose. I must have seen more of these in pictures and photos. They give you a sense of a very slow and calm life, where you have plenty of time to just sit, relax and dream, imagine and feel frozen in time...😍😑 (WhatsApp comment from a very dear college friend from Pune)

Yes, Joe. Very Southern European where there’s lot of sunshine year round so no need to use lights in the daytime, just draw the curtains and let the sunshine in - Kieran

True dat. A cuppa Darjeeling chai ☕️ is heavenly. Reminds me of the weekend we spent on a tea plantation outside Siliguri in 1986. ❣️ - Kieran
