Adrift no longer

 Adrift no longer...

Loose watercolor painting and short poem by Kieran Gonsalves (c) 2026, today I just felt like something quick and breezy

If at times you find yourself treading deep water, seemingly adrift at sea
Stop worrying about things out of your control; take baby steps to be free

A rudderless boat left to the whims of the currents will end in a quagmire
Weigh your options 'n take decisive action; course correct if it misfires

Kieran, am so impressed with your paintings. They are getting better and better by the day. The details are beautifully done. I am so reminded of our grandmother Nana. Lovely to see her artistic skills passed down to so many of her grandchildren. (WhatsApp comment by my cousin on the same chat group)

Thanks @⁨Dr. Sandra Simon⁩ and @⁨Dr Maya Mascarenhas⁩ - truly appreciate your kind words. Practice makes all the difference and the whole idea of living in the moment not looking for perfection but for spontaneous fun😊

I emailed the Heredia Photojournal to y’all, including a whole chapter on Heredia clan arts and endeavors
Nana’s progeny take up 80% so @⁨Dr Maya Mascarenhas⁩ she was the artistic one who passed it on to all of us. Feeling blessed - Kieran

This composition was a result of understanding one of the most fundamental precepts of watercolors. How to avoid mixing paints that end up as mud
The answer is surprisingly very simple - never mix all three primary colors yellow/red/blue at the same time
It has interesting ramifications, for example the mixing the following will result in mud
- yellow and purple (blue+red)
- blue and orange (red+yellow)
- red and green (yellow+blue)

Therefore I avoided an orange sail since the water is blue - I used a yellow sail.

So many nuances to watercolor painting - Kieran
